The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow warning for several districts in mainland Portugal due to intense heat. The warning covers the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisboa, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre.

This yellow warning will be in effect between 10:00 on Thursday and 19:00 on Friday. During this period, a significant rise in temperatures is expected in these regions.

The yellow warning is the second lowest level on a three-level scale of weather warnings, indicating a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.

"High" and "very high" rural fire danger for several Algarve municipalities

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) classified this Monday several Algarve municipalities with "very high" rural fire danger, namely Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, and Tavira. Other municipalities such as Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Alcoutim, Castro Marim, and Vila Real de Santo António present "high" danger. Portimão, Lagoa, Albufeira, and Faro have "moderate" risk. IPMA determines rural fire danger through five levels, from "reduced" to "maximum", considering factors such as air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation recorded in the previous 24 hours.
