Bishop asks community to give 'more life' to the Pastoral Unit

The Bishop of Bragança-Miranda, D. Nuno Almeida, asked the community to give "more life" to the Pastoral Unit of Nossa Senhora das Graças, during the solemnity of the patron saint of the city. In his homily, the prelate stated that it is necessary to continue with more dynamism and enthusiasm to organize the liturgical and pastoral life from the Cathedral, which celebrates 25 years on October 7. D. Nuno Almeida highlighted Marian devotion as a characteristic of the Christian faith in the region and asked that the community walk united, making of life a pilgrimage towards God and their brothers, also warning of the need to cultivate an "integral ecology" and to be attentive and participatory citizens. The celebration was attended by civil and religious authorities and the bishop emeritus, with the feast ending in a procession with 48 floats.

Chestnut producers report damage caused by deer

Chestnut producers from the village of Cova de Lua, in Bragança, are denouncing significant losses caused by deer, which destroyed more than 100 chestnut trees. The farmers report that the damage is recurring and that they tried, without success, to obtain support from the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment. The legislation assigns the responsibility for compensation to the parish councils, but they claim not to have budget, and the producers criticize the bureaucratic process that leads many to give up on requesting compensation. The situation is aggravated by the fact that many damaged trees were only two or three years old and were already producing husks, and by the limited authorization for culling deer granted by ICNF.

More demand than supply

Translation from Portuguese to English: Bragança continues to be an attractive destination for those seeking quality of life, but faces a growing imbalance between supply and demand in the real estate market. Young people, families, students, and investors compete for a limited number of properties, which has significantly raised both purchase and rental prices in the region. The housing shortage makes it increasingly difficult for local residents to find affordable options, in a scenario that challenges both those looking for housing and the city's own development.
