A decree was published in the Official Gazette that regulates the Single Social Provision (PSU), a new regime created by Decree-Law No. 166/2026 that will integrate 13 currently separate social support schemes, including social pensions, RSI (social integration income), social unemployment benefit and parental benefits. The decree enters into force the day after publication, but the effects only take effect on December 31, 2026, when beneficiaries will start receiving a single benefit with more uniform rules. The new system provides for automatic data crossing with the Tax Authority, automatic renewal without a new annual application, the possibility of requiring bank statements and other supporting documents, and individual insertion plans for some beneficiaries. The integration of social unemployment benefit into the PSU has generated opposition, with CGTP arguing that this benefit should maintain its own unemployment protection regime.
