The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) raised the number of districts under yellow warning from 14 to 17 due to hot weather.
The districts covered by the yellow warning are Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisboa, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre.
The yellow warning, which represents the lowest danger level on the meteorological scale, will be in effect until 9pm today.
The cause of this alert is related to the high temperatures recorded in these districts during today.
