Pope Leo XIV affirmed at the Vatican that "there is no better prevention against drugs than a good family," during an audience with participants of an international meeting on addictions in Latin America. The Pope described addictions as "a complex phenomenon that highlights the failure of a dehumanized world" and criticized the current landscape with broken families due to drug use, violence, and criminality. He defended comprehensive responses that include community prevention, scientific assistance, justice, and pastoral care, proposing four bridges of collaboration: between the Church and international organizations, between science and faith, between ecclesial communities from different continents, and ecumenism. The meeting was promoted by CELAM, the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, and CICAD of the OAS.
