The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the world's greatest authority on climate, warned that the El Niño phenomenon will intensify even further, reaching what was described as "a very strong intensity". This warning represents a growing concern for climate authorities worldwide.
The predicted intensification of El Niño has its origin, in part, in the exceptionally high temperatures recorded in the tropical Pacific. These abnormally warm waters are a determining factor for the strength and impact of the meteorological phenomenon.
The impact of this phenomenon extends to the Latin American side, particularly affecting the coasts of countries such as Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, among other coastal nations in the region. These areas will have to face potentially severe weather conditions as a direct consequence of this intensification.
