Eleven municipalities in four districts at maximum fire danger

Eleven municipalities in the districts of Guarda, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro are today at maximum rural fire danger. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued the warnings for these municipalities due to adverse weather conditions.

Temperatures are very high across the mainland, with highs of 43 degrees Celsius in Évora and Setúbal. The intense heat significantly increases the risk of ignition and fire spread.

IPMA warned about the extreme danger situation, recommending increased prevention and surveillance measures. Authorities are on alert to respond to any incidents.

This scenario of extreme heat and maximum fire danger particularly affects the inland and southern regions of the country, where vegetation dryness conditions are more favorable to the occurrence of fires.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the yellow warning for hot weather until Saturday and expanded its coverage from 11 to 14 districts.
