The sky over Changzhou, in Jiangsu province, China, took on intense pink and red tones on the morning of August 31, around 5:30 AM. Minutes later, heavy rain fell on the city. The phenomenon lasted about seven or eight minutes and quickly began circulating on social media, impressing local residents.
The spectacular coloring was not linked to any extraordinary phenomenon, but rather to a combination of the Sun's position, high humidity, and water particles and droplets present in the atmosphere. The contrast with the large dark storm clouds made the landscape even more impressive.
The explanation for the phenomenon lies in sunlight itself, which is composed of different colors and wavelengths. As it passes through the atmosphere, molecules and particles scatter certain colors differently, creating the pinkish and reddish tones that were observed.
