Fires: Municipalities in Portalegre district at maximum danger

Nineteen municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro are today at maximum rural fire danger, due to high temperatures. In the Portalegre district, the affected municipalities are Nisa, Gavião, Castelo de Vide, Portalegre and Marvão.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) also placed over 80 municipalities in several districts at very high fire danger. Fire danger will remain very high in some regions until at least Tuesday.

Due to the hot weather, IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Évora, Faro, Setúbal, Lisboa, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre until 21:00 today. The yellow warning is the least severe on a three-level scale.

Today's minimum temperatures range from 14 degrees in Braga to 24 degrees in Faro, while maximums range from 25 degrees on the northern coast to 39 degrees in Évora.

IPMA places Alentejo under yellow warning due to hot weather

IPMA issued a yellow warning of hot weather for seven districts of mainland Portugal (Beja, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal and Portalegre) until 21:00 today, due to high maximum temperature values. The southern coast of Madeira island and Porto Santo were also placed under yellow warning. Minimum temperatures will range between 14°C and 24°C, while maximum temperatures are expected to reach 39°C in Évora, with mostly clear or clear skies and light or moderate wind on the mainland.
