After several days of intense heat, the weather will change in mainland Portugal during the next week. According to Meteored's forecasts, based on the European ECMWF model, an upper-level disturbance should approach the Iberian Peninsula and increase instability between Tuesday and Wednesday. The change will be felt mainly in the North and Central regions, while the South should escape most of the precipitation.
On Monday, before this change, the weather will remain dry and warm, with maximum temperatures that could reach 37°C in Beja, 36°C in Évora and 35°C in Castelo Branco. On the coast, values will be lower, with around 24°C in Porto, 27°C in Leiria and 30°C in Lisbon. From Tuesday, rain should begin to affect Minho during the afternoon, extending to the Douro Litoral, Trás-os-Montes and some areas of the Central region during the night and early Wednesday morning. Expected accumulations could be around 7 millimeters in Braga and Bragança, between 5 and 6 millimeters in Porto and about 4 millimeters in Aveiro.
The passage of this disturbance will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures, with maximums of about 25°C in Bragança and Guarda, 30°C in Castelo Branco and 27°C in Lisbon on Wednesday. Precipitation should lose intensity during Wednesday morning. However, this change will be short-lived.
From Thursday, the departure of the trough and the approach of a ridge of warmer air should cause a new rise in temperatures. On Friday, thermometers could locally reach 38°C in the district of Beja, 36°C in the Central interior, 35°C in the Tagus Valley and 34°C in the Northeastern Transmontano. Along the coast, the scenario will be milder, with maximums of approximately 23°C in Aveiro and 26°C in Porto.
