The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) decreed maximum fire danger for 19 municipalities in Portugal. This danger level is the highest on a scale of five levels.
The affected municipalities are distributed across five districts: Bragança, Guarda, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro. This is a situation that covers several regions of the country, both in the northern interior and in the south.
In addition to the 19 municipalities at maximum danger, more than 80 municipalities present very high fire danger. This classification represents the second most severe level of the danger scale.
