Eleven districts under yellow warning due to hot weather until Friday

Diário de Aveiro2 September 2026 at 14:30

Eleven districts in mainland Portugal are under yellow warning due to hot weather, with the measure remaining in effect until Friday. This warning, issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), essentially covers the districts in the interior North and Centre, regions that will be most affected by intense heat during this period.

The yellow warning is the second most severe on a four-level scale and represents a risk situation for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and children, advising the population to take precautions such as adequate hydration and avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours.

At the same time, the rural fire danger will significantly worsen in these same interior North and Centre regions. The combination of high temperatures with reduced humidity creates favorable conditions for the occurrence and spread of fires, increasing the alert for authorities and the population.

Authorities recommend increased vigilance and the adoption of responsible behaviors, avoiding practices that may trigger fires, such as burning waste or using equipment that generates sparks. The meteorological situation shall be monitored closely until the end of the week.
