The heat will reach its peak this Thursday, September 3rd, in mainland Portugal. This heat episode, which has been anticipated by the meteorological models over the past few days, will see its highest temperatures during this day.
According to the latest update from the ECMWF model from Meteored, four district capitals are expected to exceed 38°C during the hottest hours of the day. These are Santarém, Portalegre, Évora and Beja.
The temperature rise will be particularly significant in the interior and regions south of the Tagus, where several localities may reach or even exceed 40°C. Locally, thermometers may approach 42°C.
Thursday will be the hottest day of this heat episode affecting mainland Portugal.
