Heat leaves 11 districts under yellow warning on Thursday and Friday

Eleven districts in mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning on Thursday and Friday due to heat. The yellow warning is the second level of danger on a three-level scale and aims to alert the population to meteorological conditions that pose some risk.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) placed 30 municipalities at high risk of rural fire. This risk classification is related to the dry and hot conditions that increase the risk of fire spread.

Maximum expected temperatures can reach 40 degrees in various regions of the country. The intense heat has been a constant concern in recent weeks, leading authorities to issue various weather warnings.

Authorities recommend that the population take precautions against extreme heat, avoiding sun exposure during the hours of greatest intensity and staying hydrated.
