Large tree removed on an emergency basis for safety reasons

A large linden tree was emergency removed at Largo Hermenegildo Solheiro, in Melgaço, on Thursday, August 27, after a technical evaluation identified a high risk of falling. The tree, damaged by strong wind, showed signs of degradation in the trunk, including rot, cracks and cavities, as well as two trunks with compromised stability. The local council explained that the structural fragility results from accumulated damage over the years, including lopping pruning carried out in the 1990s. Considering the location in a central square with pedestrian and vehicle circulation, the removal was considered necessary to avoid serious consequences. The intervention was carried out with adequate means and safely for the surrounding area.
