Temperatures will rise over the weekend in Portugal, leading the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) to issue a yellow heat warning in 13 districts from North to South of the country. Today marks the beginning of this temperature rise episode, which should reach 38°C in some parts of the Centre and South.
For tomorrow, Saturday, nine districts are under yellow warning from 10am: Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Lisboa, Santarém, Portalegre, Évora, Setúbal and Beja. On Sunday, the number rises to 13 districts, with Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto and Aveiro joining. All warnings will be in effect until 5pm on September 13.
Specialist Joana Campos reassures the population, stating that "this episode of high temperatures should not keep you up at night." However, according to the forecast, there may be some relief in temperatures at the start of next week in some locations across the country.
