An extratropical cyclone is expected to form Friday night between northeastern Rio Grande do Sul and the Atlantic Ocean, significantly increasing the risk of storms in the region.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a red alert for the South Region, with the possibility of intense winds and tornadoes, mainly in central-south and western Paraná, central-south and western Santa Catarina, and northwestern Rio Grande do Sul.

There is also an orange alert for storms in southern and southeastern Mato Grosso do Sul, central-south, western, and eastern São Paulo, southern Minas Gerais, and central-south Rio de Janeiro.

In the South of the country, the main focus is on Paraná, which is already experiencing rain with significant accumulations. The forecast indicates that the instability will continue this Friday and throughout the weekend in most of the affected areas.
