The heat will put nine districts in the centre and south of mainland Portugal under a yellow warning during the weekend. The districts covered are Évora, Santarém, Setúbal, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre.
The yellow warning for these nine districts comes into effect at 10:00 on Saturday. On Sunday, the warning extends to four more districts in the north of the country, namely Braga, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo and Porto.
The yellow warning is the second lowest level on a three-level meteorological warning scale, indicating potentially dangerous weather conditions that require attention from the population.
