The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow heat warning for eleven districts in mainland Portugal, which will be in effect on Thursday and Friday. The adverse meteorological situation is due to the forecast of hot weather that will affect these regions.
Due to the same forecast of high temperatures, IPMA placed thirty municipalities on Wednesday at very high danger of rural fire. This classification represents a significant risk for the occurrence of forest fires in the covered areas.
In the southern region of the country, particularly in the Alentejo and Algarve, there is also the possibility of dust in the atmosphere during Thursday, which may worsen visibility and air quality conditions.
The authorities recommend prudence to the population of the affected areas, considering the high risk of fire and the high temperatures forecast for the coming days.
