Alentejo will be under yellow warning due to hot weather

Eleven districts in mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning on Thursday due to hot weather, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere. The districts affected are Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisboa, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre, with the warning in effect between 10:00 and 19:00.

Maximum temperatures will rise by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in some locations from Wednesday onwards, potentially reaching 40 to 42 degrees in the Tagus Valley, Beira Baixa and Alentejo. On Thursday, the maximum temperature across most of the territory will range between 34 and 38 degrees, with slightly lower values along the Coastal Strip, between 25 and 31 degrees.

The yellow warning is the least severe on a three-level scale and is issued when there is a risk for activities dependent on the meteorological situation. Saharan dust is likely to be present in the southernmost regions on Thursday, and the risk of rural fire will be very high across most of the territory, with some municipalities at maximum risk.
