After a period with temperatures below average caused by a polar air mass, mainland Portugal faces a significant weather change from Wednesday, September 2. According to data from the European ECMWF model, maximum values should rise generally, with thermal anomalies up to 8°C above the reference climatological average. The month begins with mild temperatures and slightly below average across most of the territory, with the exception of points in the districts of Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal and Bragança.

On September 2, several district capitals may register an increase of up to 5°C in maximum temperatures compared to the previous day. Maximums should range between 22°C in the cities of Viana do Castelo and Aveiro and 34°C in Évora and Beja, with several points in the interior strip possibly reaching 35°C.

On Thursday, September 3, the rising trend intensifies. Only Viana do Castelo (25°C), Porto and Aveiro should have readings below 30°C. Évora and Beja will reach maximums of 38°C, with parts of the Alentejo possibly reaching 40°C. Lisbon and Setúbal will face thermal anomalies of up to 5°C to 8°C above normal for the season.

This scenario of high temperatures will remain until Friday, September 4. From Saturday, September 5, the weather models point to a new generalized drop in temperatures throughout the national territory.
