Eleven districts in mainland Portugal will be on Thursday under yellow warning due to the forecast of very hot weather. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued this warning for July 25, 2024, signaling the risk associated with the forecast high temperatures.
The thermometers could reach maximum values of 42 degrees Celsius in various regions of the country. This is a heat wave without brakes, meaning without any significant change in meteorological conditions that would allow temperatures to drop.
The yellow warning is the second lowest level in a three-level meteorological danger scale, indicating situations of risk for certain activities dependent on weather conditions. This warning applies to almost half of the 18 districts on the Portuguese mainland.
The authorities recommend that the population take precautions against the extreme heat, including adequate hydration, avoidance of sun exposure during the hottest hours, and special attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and children.
