The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) reduced to three the Algarve municipalities with "maximum" rural fire danger. Between yesterday and today, the municipalities of Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira became the only ones at the highest fire risk level in the Algarve region.
With "very high" danger are eight municipalities: Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António. At the "elevated" level are Aljezur, Lagoa and Albufeira, while Faro and Olhão have "moderate" danger.
The IPMA's rural fire danger classification system consists of five levels, which are calculated based on meteorological variables. The calculations take into account air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of precipitation recorded in the previous 24 hours.
