The King and Queen of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, walked alongside Harald V's coffin along the funeral route that crossed the center of Oslo, from the Royal Palace to the Cathedral, forming part of the funeral procession of the Norwegian monarch who died on August 28 at the age of 89.
The image of the Spanish King and Queen walking behind King Harald V's coffin carried strong institutional weight, with the Spanish head of state participating directly in the funeral ceremony that took place this Wednesday in the Norwegian capital.
Before the religious ceremony, Felipe VI and Letizia had already been able to greet Crown Prince Haakon and his wife, Mette-Marit, at the Castle, at a meeting that took place before the funeral.
After the funeral mass at Oslo Cathedral, a reception was held at the Royal Palace, but the Spanish royal family did not stay at the event, leaving shortly after the ceremony concluded.
