The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings for seven districts of mainland Portugal due to intense heat. The districts covered are Beja, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal and Portalegre.
The yellow warning, which represents the lowest level of meteorological alert, was issued due to the high maximum temperature values recorded in these regions. This type of warning indicates a risk situation for activities dependent on meteorological conditions.
The seven affected districts are mainly distributed across the interior of the Alentejo region and the south of the country, but also include the Lisbon region. Portalegre and Castelo Branco, in the central interior, are among the flagged districts.
IPMA recommends caution to the population of these regions, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children, due to the high temperatures being experienced.
