Sunday may bring showers in the North and highlands of Madeira

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere forecasts that this Sunday will be marked by periods of very cloudy skies in Madeira. However, good clear spells are expected on the south slope of the island.

There is a possibility of weak showers on the north slope and in the highlands of the island of Madeira until the end of the morning, according to IPMA forecasts.

As for the wind, it should blow light to moderate, with speeds between 10 to 30 kilometres per hour, from the northeast. On the east and west extremes of the island, the wind may sometimes be strong, reaching up to 40 kilometres per hour.

IPMA places seven districts under yellow warning until 21:00 on Monday

The Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA) issued a yellow warning for hot weather for seven districts in mainland Portugal — Beja, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal and Portalegre — valid until 21:00 on Monday, due to the expected high maximum temperature values. The yellow warning, the least severe on a three-level scale, was also maintained until Saturday for 17 of the 18 mainland districts, with the exception of Viana do Castelo. Additionally, a yellow warning was issued for heavy rainfall and possibility of thunderstorm for the Western group of the Azores, in effect until 09:00.

IPMA extended the yellow hot weather warning in seven districts of mainland Portugal until 9 PM tomorrow, covering Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Lisboa, Setúbal, Évora, Beja, and Faro. Although the North and Center coast is experiencing a drop in temperatures, the interior region and the South of the country continue with high values, with temperatures reaching up to 39 °C in Baixo Alentejo.

According to IPMA, mainland Portugal should experience typical meteorological conditions for early September, with high temperatures in the interior between 32 and 37°C and milder maximums on the coast between 23 and 29°C. The wind will blow predominantly from the northwest, weak to moderate on the west coast during the afternoon. Mostly clear or sunny skies are expected, although the north and central coast will have periods of very cloudy skies with morning fog and possibility of light rain or drizzle, extending to areas north of the Montejunto-Estrela system on September 9.
