The Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute issued a hot weather warning for seven districts of the Portuguese mainland, valid until 21:00 on Monday, September 7. The districts covered are Beja, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal and Portalegre, affected due to the expected high maximum temperature values.
Until 21:00 on Saturday, IPMA had maintained the yellow warning for 17 of the 18 districts of mainland Portugal, with only Viana do Castelo being the exception. This situation extended the effects of a heat wave that had already affected a large part of the territory.
In the Azores, IPMA issued a yellow warning for sometimes heavy rainfall, with possibility of thunderstorm, for the Western group of the archipelago, valid until 09:00 on the same day.
The yellow warning is the least severe on a three-level scale and is used whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
