The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for five districts of mainland Portugal, which will be in effect from 3pm until 9pm today. This warning comes in parallel with the 14 districts already under yellow heat warning.
The districts covered by the thunderstorm warning are Vila Real, Viseu, Bragança, Guarda and Castelo Branco, all located in the North and Center regions of the country. The forecasted atmospheric instability may also affect Southern regions, although less intensely.
The yellow warning alerts to conditions favorable to the occurrence of localized meteorological phenomena, including thunderstorm, locally heavy rainfall with accumulation between 10 to 20 millimeters per hour, and wind gusts between 70 and 90 kilometers per hour.
