A demon fish was hidden for 40 years in a military base

ZAP Notícias4 September 2026 at 08:00

An eyeless creature, nicknamed the cave demon fish, was discovered in a limestone network called Bobcat Cave, located in a restricted access military installation in northern Alabama. The scientists gave the strange creature the name of Demogorgon, a character from the Stranger Things series.

The cave is located on a low hill that is part of a restricted military area, where there are also hills that served as burial mounds for the Copena people about 2,000 years ago. This same region housed deactivated neurotoxic gas from the Cold War.

Bobcat Cave is a tight but extensive limestone network, which is not particularly welcoming for human visitors. The article, which ends incompletely, mentioned that researchers had to walk bent over or in some other uncomfortable way to explore the site.
