Albufeira brings science closer to schools and the community

The Municipality of Albufeira signed a partnership protocol with the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve in Faro, with the aim of bringing science and technology closer to the community, especially children. The agreement was signed by the mayor, Rui Cristina, by the executive director of the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, Cristina Veiga-Pires, and was attended by the councilor for Education, Maria Cristina Corado.

Under this partnership, preschool and primary school children from public schools in Albufeira will be able to make free school trips to the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, with access to permanent and temporary exhibitions. At least two 4th grade classes will participate in the Viva Science School project, and the Municipality will cover transportation and meal costs for participants.

The collaboration also includes scientific activities in schools in the municipality, the installation of traveling exhibitions around Albufeira, and the Center's participation in events organized by the municipality. Residents of the municipality will have free entry on Sundays, or on Saturdays if the venue is closed on Sundays. Public entities in the social, cultural, sports, and recreational sectors benefit from a 10% discount, while private entities and individuals covered by the protocol are entitled to a 5% discount.

To implement these measures, the Municipality of Albufeira will provide an annual financial contribution of 12,500 euros. The protocol is valid for the calendar year in which it is signed and may be automatically renewed for one-year periods. The initiative seeks to strengthen the connection between schools, families, and specialized teams, stimulating from an early age children's curiosity and contact with scientific knowledge.
