Young people learn and create ways to communicate science

Young students participated in a five-day program dedicated to deepening scientific content and developing ways to communicate science. During this period, participants learned techniques to make scientific concepts more accessible to the public.

The main objective of the event was to empower young people to translate complex scientific knowledge into understandable messages. The students explored different approaches to science communication.

The activities took place over five consecutive days, allowing the young people to immerse themselves in the content and practice different methods of scientific dissemination. This immersion enabled participants to develop skills in both understanding and presenting scientific topics.

Albufeira brings science closer to schools and the community

The Municipality of Albufeira signed a protocol with the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve that allows preschool and primary school children from public schools in the municipality to visit the center in Faro free of charge, including access to all exhibitions. Albufeira residents will also have free entry on Sundays or Saturdays, while public and private entities will benefit from discounts on tickets. The agreement also includes scientific activities in schools, traveling exhibitions, and the participation of 4th grade classes in the Viva Science School project. The Municipality of Albufeira will contribute 12,500 euros annually to implement these measures, which aim to bring science and technology closer to the community's daily life, promoting contact with scientific knowledge from the earliest school years.

Social jetlag: sleeping more on weekends can increase anxiety in teenagers, new study shows

A new meta-analysis published in the journal Sleep Medicine Reviews found that teenagers between 12 and 18 years old who sleep more on weekends may have higher levels of anxiety. Analyzing data from more than 235,000 young people and eight studies on the topic, researchers identified a link between the so-called "social jetlag" — the discrepancy between the teenager's biological clock and the school routine — and anxiety symptoms such as worry and restlessness. The greater the difference between sleep schedules during the week and on weekends, the more likely young people are to report higher levels of anxiety, reinforcing the importance of sleep as one of the pillars of mental health in adolescence.
