Tax Authority Conducts Inspection of Beach Concessions and Identifies Problems with Invoices

Diário de Leiria2 September 2026 at 20:00

The Tax Authority conducted an inspection operation of beach concessions in Portugal, visiting beaches in nine districts across the country. Tax inspectors visited establishments in coastal areas to verify compliance with tax obligations by the concession holders.

The operation covered beaches in the districts of Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal, and Viana do Castelo, thus covering a vast area of the Portuguese coastline. The inspection focused particularly on the issuance of invoices to customers.

During the inspection, problems related to the issuance of invoices by the beach concession holders were identified. These irregularities constitute violations of the legal framework for invoicing, which requires the mandatory issuance of fiscally valid documents in all commercial transactions.

The action falls within the powers of the Tax and Customs Authority in monitoring compliance with tax obligations by taxpayers, especially during the bathing season, when commercial activity on beaches increases significantly.
