The ZERO organization issued an alert for the worsening quality of bathing waters in Portugal. The most recent data shows a significant increase in advisories and bans at beaches and bathing areas.
The number of advisories increased from 34 to 45, representing a significant rise compared to the previous period. This situation has led to several bathing areas no longer being recommended for swimming.
Bans issued by health authorities also increased considerably, rising from 17 to 39. This doubled value demonstrates a deterioration in safety conditions for beach users.
ZERO alerted to the need for greater surveillance and intervention in the affected bathing areas, in order to protect public health and ensure adequate conditions for bathing activities.
