A new heat ridge with origins in African latitudes should affect Portugal from September 20, causing a widespread rise in temperatures. After several days marked by high temperatures, this situation keeps the country unable to definitively shake off the intense heat that has characterized this period.
This Tuesday, the 15th, brought some thermal relief, especially along the North and Central coast. However, this temperature drop does not mean the end of the heat, as the interior will continue with high values above the seasonal average.
In the interior, particularly in Alentejo and the Central region, maximum temperatures remain very high, possibly approaching 36 to 37 degrees Celsius. This contrast between the coast and the interior remains the main characteristic of this heat period.
From the weekend onwards, a new atmospheric configuration should intensify the heat across the entire Portuguese territory, with the arrival of the African ridge expected on September 20.
