According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the week of September 14 to 20, 2026 will be marked by hot and dry air, with temperatures well above normal for this time of year. No precipitation is expected across most of the territory, although at the end of the week there may be a chance of thunderstorms in the inland regions.
Maximum temperature values are expected to exceed 30°C throughout almost the entire territory, except for higher elevation locations and the coastal strip. On the 14th and 15th, the peak of the week's heat is forecast, with temperatures possibly reaching 35°C across much of the country, including coastal areas. In the Central and Southern regions, values will be even higher, approaching 40°C in the Tagus valley and Alentejo.
Minimum temperature will remain high, generally above 17°C. At the beginning of the week, tropical nights are expected, with values between 20 and 25°C, in several locations in the Central and Southern regions. Throughout the week, temperature should decrease gradually, although remaining above normal for this time of year.
Wind will be generally weak, blowing in a moderate nortada regime on the west coast at the beginning of the week. The sky should remain clear across most of the territory, except on the coastal strip of the Northern and Central regions, between the Mondego River mouth and the Douro River mouth, where periods of low cloud and fog may occur.
