The high temperatures at the end of summer are leading many people to the beaches of Portugal. This Sunday saw very hot days, encouraging citizens to seek cool and leisure spots by the sea.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings for several regions of the country. The number of districts covered by these warnings increased from nine to 13 throughout Sunday, indicating an intensification of heat conditions.
The IPMA yellow warnings refer to situations of moderate risk for particularly vulnerable groups, such as children, elderly people, and people with chronic diseases. These high temperatures are typical of the transition period between summer and autumn.
Portuguese beaches continued to register high attendance despite being already at the end of the bathing season. The authorities advise the population to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure during the hottest hours.
