Prolonged hot weather warning until Tuesday in Madeira

SAPO Notícias13 September 2026 at 10:07

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the yellow warning for hot weather to all zones of Madeira and Porto Santo. The warning remains active until Tuesday due to the persistence of elevated maximum temperature values. This extension of the yellow warning covers all regions of the Madeira archipelago, including Porto Santo. IPMA is the organization responsible for monitoring meteorological conditions in Portugal and issuing the respective warnings to the population.

Why this matters

Residents and tourists in Madeira and Porto Santo are facing high temperatures for several consecutive days, which can pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups. This warning allows the population to take appropriate precautions, such as hydration and avoiding prolonged sun exposure, until the intense heat conditions end on Tuesday.
