Man accused of carrying out 36 'Hello Mum, Hello Dad' scams tried at Leiria Court

A 44-year-old man is being tried at Leiria Court, accused of carrying out 36 "Hello Mum, Hello Dad" scams. This type of fraudulent scheme consists of phone calls where the scammer pretends to be a family member in difficulty to ask victims for money.

The defendant allegedly committed the crimes in various locations across the country, not only in the Leiria region. The total amount that the Public Prosecutor's Office estimates was diverted exceeds 67,000 euros, almost 68,000 euros.

The trial is taking place at the Judicial Court of Leiria, where the man faces charges of qualified fraud. This is one of the most significant cases related to this type of scam in the Leiria district area.
