The Staples store in Parchal, in the Algarve, will close to make way for a Darty store, changing the commercial offer available in that space in the municipality of Lagoa. The closure is expected to happen in March 2027, although the company has not yet officially announced the date. The opening with the new brand should occur a few months later, representing the first Darty store in the Algarve region.

This change comes following the acquisition of 11 Staples spaces by the French group Fnac Darty. The operation was authorized by the Competition Authority on August 7, which issued a "no opposition" decision, considering that the business did not create significant barriers to competition in the national retail market. The Algarve space is part of an operation that covers 10 other Staples stores.

The future unit will have an offer focused on large and small household appliances, but also on consumer electronics. The planned catalog includes computing, telecommunications, image and sound equipment, products for personal care and an area dedicated to gaming. The brand change will be accompanied by a significant alteration of the products sold at the location.

The arrival of Darty in the Algarve is part of an expansion plan that foresees an investment of 50 million euros over five years. The Fnac Darty group has been present in the Portuguese market since 1998, year in which it opened the first Fnac in Lisbon, and in 2023 it acquired MediaMarkt, whose stores began using the Darty brand.

Lost a family member and don't know if they left life insurance? This is how to get that information quickly

Family members of deceased persons may be unaware of the existence of life insurance policies associated with the deceased. To obtain this information, they can contact the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ASF), which maintains a central registry of life insurance, personal accident, and capitalization operation contracts. The request is made through a form that must be filled with the applicant's and the deceased's data, accompanied by the death certificate and identification documents. The form, signed and with the necessary documentation, can be sent by email, mail, or delivered in person. ASF responds within a maximum period of 10 working days. There are, however, limitations: non-contributory group insurance may not appear in the registry, and there are legal exclusions for insurance with a duration equal to or less than two months, among others. The identification of an insurance does not automatically mean that the applicant is the beneficiary; this confirmation must be requested directly from the insurer.

19-Year Mercadona Employee Dismissed After Company Discovers What He Did 7,685 Times in Just 25 Days of Work

A Mercadona worker in Spain, with 19 years of seniority, was disciplinarily dismissed after a computer audit detected 7,685 accesses to personal websites — such as YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and Reddit — during working hours, between February 1 and 25, 2025. The case, which also involved sending at least 30 personal messages through a professional account and forwarding company documentation to his private address, reached the High Court of Justice of Castile and León, which confirmed the dismissal. The court considered that the persistent and deliberate use of company resources for personal purposes represented a breach of contractual good faith and an abuse of trust, regardless of no direct economic damage. The process also took into account previous warnings for inappropriate behavior and an episode of insults and threats to a colleague. The Mercadona collective agreement expressly frames the private use of computer resources as a very serious infraction.
