The African ridge is advancing through mainland Portugal, causing a significant rise in temperatures over the next four days, with maximums that could reach 38°C. The yellow warning for hot weather is already in effect for 13 districts of the country.
On Friday, September 11, a more significant warming was already noticeable compared to the previous day, especially in the northern half of the territory, with cities such as Braga, Vila Real, and Viseu recording maximum temperatures already close to or above 30°C.
The heat episode will peak between Sunday, the 13th, and Monday, the 14th, when the subtropical ridge will expand northward. This extension of a high-pressure region, increasingly extensive and robust, will be combined with hot air coming from Africa.
This hot air mass will affect not only Portugal but much of Europe. On Monday, the 14th, the African ridge should reach as far as the North Sea.
