Rutte guarantees NATO will remain "united and strong" regardless of French election outcome

DianaFM10 September 2026 at 15:38

The NATO Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, stated on Thursday that the Atlantic Alliance will maintain its unity and strength, regardless of the outcome of the presidential elections in France, scheduled for spring 2027. The guarantee was given in Berlin, during the conference of heads of German diplomatic missions, where Rutte spoke alongside the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul.

The possibility of a far-right victory in France has generated concern among NATO allies, who fear potential changes in the country's foreign and defense policy. However, Rutte sought to reassure partners by emphasizing that the Alliance is prepared to face different political scenarios in its member states.

The Secretary-General stressed that NATO's foundations, including the commitment to collective defense and transatlantic cooperation, are solid enough to withstand internal political changes in any member country. This statement comes at a time when several European allies are closely monitoring the evolution of the political scene in France.

ERC concluded that TVI did not observe "antenna ethics" in Cristina Ferreira's interview about rape

The Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC) concluded that TVI did not observe "antenna ethics" in Cristina Ferreira's interview on the 'Two at 10' program, in April, about the case of four 'influencers' accused of raping a 16-year-old teenager and filming the sexual acts in Loures in 2025. The ERC considered that the way the case was approached violated ethical principles of social communication, particularly regarding coverage of cases involving minor victims.
