Weather in Rio: Heavy rain hits different areas of the city on Thursday

Rain showers hit different points in the city of Rio de Janeiro around 10am on Thursday. The Alerta Rio System recorded precipitation in neighborhoods in the North, Southwest, and West Zones of the city.

Residents of Copacabana, in the South Zone, and people passing through Downtown also reported heavy rain. Civil Defense made channels available for the population to receive weather alerts, including SMS (sending the zip code to 40199) and WhatsApp (message to 61-2034-4611).

The city's Operations and Resilience Center (COR) listed a series of recommendations to be adopted on rainy days, aimed at ensuring the safety of the population during episodes of intense precipitation.

Civil Defense of SP warns of risk of severe storms in the coming days

São Paulo's Civil Defense issued a warning for severe storms between Friday (11) and Saturday, with forecast of heavy rain, lightning, wind gusts and hail in several regions of the State. Presidente Prudente, Marília, Itapeva, Registro and part of Sorocaba face the highest risk of severe storms and isolated tornadoes. The capital, Greater São Paulo, Campinas, the Paraíba Valley and the Coast will also be affected, with rough seas on the coast. The instability will be caused by the formation of an extratropical cyclone in the South of the country, and the Civil Defense will install a Crisis Cabinet to monitor the situation.
