The Office of the Attorney General celebrated the decision by the president of the Supreme Court, Minister Edson Fachin, who suspended on Wednesday the decision by Minister André Mendonça to remove the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, and the Intelligence director, Leandro Almada. The AGU had filed an appeal against Mendonça's decision the previous day.
In an official statement, the AGU stated that it receives Fachin's decision with satisfaction, respect, and hope. According to the agency, the measure restores public and administrative order, in addition to reaffirming the exclusive constitutional prerogative of the president of the Republic to appoint and remove Federal Police leadership positions.
The statement also highlights that the decision restores the necessary conditions for the regular functioning of the Federal Police's activities, considered an institution essential to public security and the Democratic Rule of Law. The text concludes that the president of the STF's action contributes to restoring institutional integrity within the Supreme Court.
