The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, stated that the State's entry into REN was the news she most liked to share with the Portuguese. This declaration was made during a hearing before the Environment and Energy Committee.
The government official argued that the State's participation in REN reinforces the capacity to defend the public interest in a company considered strategic for the Portuguese energy system. According to the minister, this entry represents another tool to protect the interests of the population.
REN, the company responsible for managing the national electricity grid, is seen by the Government as essential for the functioning of the country's energy sector. The State's position in this company aims to guarantee greater control over a sector considered strategic.
