Fachin removes Moraes from Fake News inquiry rapporteurship

The president of the Supreme Federal Court, Minister Edson Fachin, removed Minister Alexandre de Moraes from the rapporteurship of the Fake News inquiry, which had been in progress since 2019. The decision was made this Wednesday (9) and determines that all preliminary investigation procedures filed and distributed by prevention to Inq. 4.781/DF return to the Presidency's Rapporteurship.

After Fachin's analysis, the records will be sent to the police authority and then to the Attorney General's Office so that it may file an indictment or request dismissal, in accordance with the law and the court's Internal Rules.

The acts practiced by Moraes during the seven years in which he conducted the inquiry remain valid, meaning all decisions previously made remain in effect.

The change occurs within the scope of the Supreme Federal Court and directly involves the two ministers, with potential impact on investigations related to fake news that were under Moraes's responsibility.
