The Socialist Party expressed opposition to the announcements made by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, considering that the measures represent a "bonus in month of convenience". João Torres, vice-president of the PS parliamentary bench, was the main voice of the party's opposition to these government measures.
The PSD, on the other hand, defended the measures taken by the Executive, highlighting the country's economic performance as justification for the decisions. The social democrats explained why Luís Montenegro had previously stated that it would not be possible to cut taxes, suggesting that the improvement in the economic situation allowed this position to be changed.
