President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reached out to Supreme Court ministers to broker a solution for the crisis facing the Court, which was aggravated by the back-and-forth of decisions regarding Andrei Rodrigues' tenure as head of the Federal Police. Lula spoke with at least two justices on the matter.
In these conversations, Lula shared the impression that STF President Edson Fachin needs to take control of the internal conflict and adopt a measure to ease tensions between ministers André Mendonça and Alexandre de Moraes. Interlocutors point out that Lula believes Fachin could lose internal influence if he delays making a decision.
The faction of the STF closest to Lula is made up of Gilmar Mendes, Cristiano Zanin, Flávio Dino, and Alexandre de Moraes, a group that is in opposition to André Mendonça. At the same time, allies say that Lula believes a solution needs to come from the Supreme Court itself.
The clash took on new dimensions as of Tuesday, when the conflict between the ministers intensified. The PT campaign is also working to minimize the electoral impact of the crisis.
