Chega demanded a repeat vote on a Left Bloc motion approved at the Lisbon Metropolitan Assembly regarding Elevador da Glória. The party led by André Ventura believes the voting result should have been changed after the announcement of the result.
Combining Chega's votes with the opposing votes already expressed by PSD, CDS-PP and IL, the BE motion would have been rejected. However, after the voting result was announced, it was not changed, which prompted Chega's demand for a repeat vote.
This procedure of not changing the result after its announcement has been in place for several terms at the Lisbon Metropolitan Assembly. According to the established practice, parties can attach a voting statement to clarify the meaning of their vote.
The BE motion regarding Elevador da Glória was ultimately approved with votes in favor from the left, but Chega maintains its demand for a repeat vote, contesting the procedure adopted.
