Feiras Novas will comply with court decision

Alto Minho9 September 2026 at 16:27

The president of the Municipal Association of Feiras Novas, Gonçalo Rodrigues, stated that the organization will comply with any ruling transmitted to them, after the Court of Ponte de Lima determined the mandatory participation of the Parish Council of Rebordões Santa Maria in the ethnographic procession of the festivities.

In mid-August, the association excluded the parish of Rebordões Santa Maria from the ethnographic procession, after becoming aware of the intention of the Parish Council president, Vítor Gonçalves, to introduce a tractor with a tanker into the event, allegedly to protest against the lack of investment in the sanitation network.

The mayor then filed an interim injunction, and the court ruled in favor of the Parish Council, ordering the suspension of the Municipal Association of Feiras Novas' decision to exclude the parish from the ethnographic procession.

The association is obligated to comply with the judicial decision, under penalty of, if violated, incurring the crime of qualified disobedience.
