The Portuguese Government will create a permanent mechanism to monitor and track the status of infrastructures such as bridges and slopes across the country. This decision comes following the mandate given to LNEC (National Laboratory of Civil Engineering) to conduct an audit of public artworks.
The measure was taken after episodes of bad weather that highlighted the need for more rigorous monitoring of existing infrastructures. The objective is to guarantee continuous evaluation and prevent risk situations.
The Executive thus intends to establish a monitoring system that allows identifying problems in a timely manner and ensuring proper maintenance of these critical structures for public safety.
